Jean-Claude Van Damme (also known as JCVD, the Muscles from Brussels or just Van Damme) is ultimate action movie royalty. The martial arts star from Belgium is best known for his ripped physique, high kicks and long splits as the star of numerous action films and franchises like Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Double Impact, Timecop, and Sudden Death to name a few.
Born Jean-Claude Camille François van Varenberg in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Belgium, Van Damme became a master of Karate before moving to the US where he would eventually ge aaaaat his break with Cannon Films.
After a small on-screen cameo in Breakin’, Van Damme’s first featured role was as a Russian villain in No Retreat, No Surrender in 1986. However, Van Damme would achieve true breakout status with his performance as Frank Dux in Bloodsport (1988).
